Quick Guide to Business Valuation

Business valuation is a process used to determine the current economic value of an owner’s interest in a particular business. It can be used to estimate the selling price of a business, or to settle a financial or legal disputes caused by any number of issues. When discussing business valuation, you should consider fair market value, which refers to the price, expressed in cash equivalents, at which a certain property could exchange hands to an equally willing buyer and seller.

Concerning business valuation, current economic conditions should definitely be taken into consideration at national, regional, and local levels. In addition, there are three different ways to approach business valuation: the income approach, which is determined by the fair market value, an asset-based approach, in which the value of a business is based on an equal sum of its parts, and the market approach, which is based on the principle of supply and demand.
