A Quick Guide to Houston Phone Systems
Choosing a phone system usually involves familiarizing yourself with some technical information. Here are some common terms you should become familiar with before you begin comparing quotes from phone system vendors.
Cabinet– Also a “key system unit” (KSU), “central unit”, or “base,” this is a physical cabinet where internal and external routing and configurations take place.
CTI (computer telephony integration) – Applications that integrate a phone system with a computer, such as one-click dialing, video conferencing, incoming call routing, and others.
Extensions –Multiple phone lines for fax machines, modems and separate employee lines that are all “extensions” of the same office phone number.
Lines– Telephone lines that allow calls to be placed to your business. Vendors refer to lines as “trunks.”
Ports– The number of lines, extensions, or connections that a given phone system can accomodate.
