Considering VoIP telephone systems for your office

Voice over internet protocol (VoIP) telephone systems are becoming increasingly popular because they use the Internet to send and receive phone calls. Because so many offices already use broadband Internet access, adding a VoIP telephone service is a simple addition to the office.

VoIP telephone systems are incredibly cost effective for those that conduct a large amount of international calls. With traditional phone systems, the user is charged by the location of the phone call and how many minutes each call lasts. However, with a VoIP telephone system, the Internet cannot determine how far away the recipient of the phone call is and therefore, each call is charged at the same rate.

Before you switch over to a VoIP telephone for the office, make sure you have a backup plan when it comes to power outages and making emergency phone calls. VoIP telephones and the 911 calls they make are often hard to translate because the phone address won’t necessarily correlate with the address of the emergency. You will also want to look into a VoIP telephony adapter so your system works with your current telephone.
