A merchant, in the past, would need to verify credit card information by calling the issuing bank. The issuing bank would then transfer money to the merchant. Having a credit card merchant account makes this process easier and much less time consuming.

You can decide or not it you want to use a:

  • Magnetic card reader – Magnetic transactions are usually less expensive to process because there is less risk of fraud, and therefore probably fewer chargebacks.

  • Non-magnetic transactions - Work the same way, except the card is not physically swiped. The merchant account still verifies the information. Since there is a higher fraud risk for non-magnetic transactions, they are usually more expensive.
