Phone Systems Vendors in Virginia

Businesses are faced with many choices when it comes to phone systems- one of the most important is the type of system your office requires. Phone systems can be divided into two basic categories: hosted systems (often called hosted VoIP, virtual PBX, or hosted PBX) and on-premise solutions. These types of systems differ in their capabilities, their requirements, their costs, and in the features they provide.

On-premise phone systems can use a standard telephone network (PSTN or public switched telephone network) connection alone, or use some combination of landline connection and internet transmission to send and receive calls. Most on-site systems are purchased outright, and the equipment is housed and maintained at your office. While the initial cost outlay might be higher, the fact that you own the equipment allows you to claim it as a depreciable asset and modify it as you see fit. Businesses that choose on-premise systems like the control and access that comes with owning your own equipment.

Hosted solutions are usually paid for as a monthly charge- most use VoIP or internet based telephony to provide phone service. The upside to using a hosted solution is that all maintenance, upgrades, and repairs are handled by the vendor- hosted systems are also portable, so you can move offices without the need to reconfigure equipment. On the other hand, hosted systems might be more expensive in the long run, since you never own the hardware outright (other than purchased phones).

Before you choose a solution for your business, speak with vendors that deal with both types of phone systems.
